Hello Listons. My family is from Limerick, Ireland. My father Brendan Liston moved to the U.S in the mid 1950's. My Grandparents were Patrick Liston and Eileen Liston. Both, I think were born around Limerick also. I know we have many relatives still in Limerick today. My parents visited a few years ago, it was the first time my Dad was back since he moved the the US.

December 1st 2003-richard daglish-Liverpool, England

have seen earlier request for contact. I served in Territorial Army (359(4 West Lancs) Royal Artillery, so this may be the clue someone wanted.

November 19th 2003-Darren Liston-Margate, Kent, England

I was born in Margate 1n 1973, the first son of 3, to Michael Liston(1947) and Linda Liston (nee Harnett).

Michael was the son of Alice Liston, who also had an elder son Keith, whose family we have only recently been in contact with, which is very exciting!

My brother Matthew is studying for a phd at University of Bath, and my other Brother David is in the pharmaceutical industry, and lives in London. I work with disadvantaged children and am also a keen musician and singer/songwriter.

We are all very keen to hear from other Listons around the globe, I didnt realise there were so many!

November 14th 2003-Liston Edge-South Carolina

November 14th 2003-kevin Liston-Limerick

Hey just wanted to say hello to every one out there I think this site is interesting. Was wondering about the origin of our name  because I have seen reports that it is Celtic. You say its Norman and wondered which was true. Just curious!

Also big shout out to all the Limerick Listons especially the ones from Croagh/Cappagh.

November 4th 2003-Sarah Liston-New York (by way of Texas)

I married into the Liston family (my husband is David Liston) and gladly took on the name Liston--and what a fine name it is! Great site! If any other Listons out there ever get to NYC, visit my vintage clothing shop, Tallulah Vintage. Be sure to mention that you're a Liston!

October 23rd 2003-Keith Donaldson-Newhaven, Scotland

My family are from Newhaven where there are a lot of Listons!! My mother is Jean Liston and I have an uncle in Vancouver named Walter. My grandmother was Belle Liston who sang with the Newhaven Fishwives choir. Those interested in Listons should visit the heritage museum at Newhaven Harbour and the Peacock Inn where the walls are full of liston pictures.

October 9th 2003-Carole Liston-Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Just admire the work that you have done. I was playing around and said I am just going to type in Liston on search nothing else and see what happens. I so enjoyed reading it all. I e-mailed it to everyone in the family. The item I liked most was the origin of our name. Not just starting here in the states you started from the first listing. So just wanted to say thanks.

Just to give family names for the fun of it here they are Effie May Liston (my grandmother) James Louis Liston borne and raised close to Tulsa Oklahoma, his sisters and brothers Shirly and Jo Ann were twins, Fread, Floid,Helen all borne close to Tulsa James children are Myself and Jamie, Shirley three boys are Buddy ,Mike and Ricky, Jo Anns children are Ronda and Roney, Fread children are Leroy and Corkey, Floids children are Kelly and Randy Helen had no children she lost her husband Frank at 30 and never remarried.

I do not know if we have any decendents that we share but just sharing the last name is meaningful. Take care and stay safe

October 1st 2003-Choriza Liston-pennsylvania

Well hello there Listons!! Isn't this a mighty fine site! i never knew there were so many Listons! Im trying to contact one of my relatives, Regis Liston. Regis moved to Europe in the 1960's, where he wrote many songs. Some of you may have heard the old chantey "Pedalo to Positano". It never quite made it to the states but i hear he was quite acclaimed in Italy. Regis was an important part of my youth, id like to contact him because he was very close to my deceased father.

im just searching for any information that could set me on the right road. (Regis if you are reading this... we're not angry anymore, we forgive you. please contact us!)

September 30th 2003-James Philip Liston-United States,-California

Cool site! Did you know that there are Liston's in the Philippines?? My Dad, grandfather, basically my ancestors are seamen so that would be one of the possible reason why are there so many Listons around the world. whats up Listons!!!

September 29th 2003-Steven Liston-Edinburgh, Scotland

There is a long history of the family name in Newhaven, Edinburgh (an old fishing village) going back to at least the 19th century. The walls of the Peacock Inn in Newhaven bear historical photographs of fishing families, including the Liston's. If anybody is visiting Edinburgh and likes that kind of thing, it's worth a look.

I found this web-site whilst attempting to trace a tartan Liston tartan. Couldn't find one so I'm designing it myself.

September 29th 2003-Derek Louis Liston. -age: 20 -accent: Very Canadian

Brockville, Ontario. Canada.

I felt I had to post this because of the massive absence of posts from Canadian Listons. So here's one! TADA! I am a descendant of Pat Liston who came to Canada from Ireland. Our family in Canada lives primarily in the Ottawa area. As an update on our well-being, my Uncle James Liston tore the ligaments in the back of his leg last week dodging a bat (the flying kind). But not to worry, today he played his first round of golf since (his score suffered but we tell him he was just lucky the past few times, and we suspected all along that today's was the score he SHOULD have been getting). Feel free to e-mail me for more mildly entertaining stories and other argle-bargle. Have fun!

September 26th 2003-Gregory John Liston-

Currently live on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia

Glad you're all here. It gives me somewhere to start and somewhere I can direct my son towards as he is also interested in finding out more about his ancestry. Feel free to e-mail me.

She was petite with blonde hair. I haven't seen sight nor sound of her in almost six years. I would be grateful for any info you might have.

July 12th 2003-Mark Liston-Stoughton, Massachusetts

Just wanted to say that this site is really amazing, never had so much pride about my name, it's awesome. My family is spread out around Massachusetts, we have a pretty big family.

I am 22 years old and currently active duty in the Air Force stationed in Minot, ND. I guess I have a few questions if anyone can answer them, am I the "1" Liston in North Dakota? My permanent residence is still Massachusetts...Also can anyone give me information specifically about my family tree?

Senior Airman Mark V. Liston (United States Air Force)

July 3rd 2003-jess m. liston-san mateo, california

i came to the USA from the philippines in 1979. there are a lot of listons in cebu, philippines. my older relatives used to tell me that our ancestors were scottish immigrants to the philippines but i don't have a way to verify this. i can only go as far back to my grandfather, felipe liston, who was born sometime in 1875 and died in about 1950. it would be of great interest to me if one of your researchers could confirm any such scottish or irish immigrants to the philippines in the early 1800. thanks. i enjoyed surfing thru the liston website.

July 3rd 2003-Michael Moroney-Dublin

Hi, im researching my new girlfriend, Ruth Liston. She is from Dublin and has a large family of Listons. i dont know too much about them but im trying to find out. Just a bit of background information would be great so if anyone knows the dublin Listons could they email me?

Great website! Thanks

July 2nd 2003-Laura Margaret Liston (nee Allen)-Dublin, Ireland

Laura Liston here, just updating the clan on what's been happening to us Irish Listons. Well, firstly it is my Grandad's 100th birthday on 3rd July. His name was Kevin Liston and he was father of the Irish Bar (a barrister). Grandad died when he was 89, but a small detail that wouldn't stop us Listons from throwing a party! My father, Terence, is organising a huge bash for his late dad and there is going to be a cake with 100 candles (but only 89 lit!). Unfortunately i will not be at the party - I have moved to the island of Ios in Greece for the summer! I may have mentioned my husband Tim in a previous message. Well, sad to say Tim and I have gone our separate ways. He wanted to have children and I was just not ready for that sort of thing. I guess Myrtle and Darina will have to wait! I am on Ios with my sister Ruth, who really deserves a holiday after her wonderful efforts at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Ireland last month. She won a bronze medal and has not taken it off since - she even wears it to the beach and has a tan line in the shape of a large circle on her chest! Well, that's my news, hope all you other Listons are well! Bye for now!

June 20th 2003-Carolyn Jester-Ontario, CA

I have been searching for Andrew Liston from Glasgow, Scotland who married Margaret Cochran Queen from Paisley, Scotland in 1899 at Old Kilpatrick Parish. I believe they immigrated in about 1926 to the US (New York). They had 5 children Agnes (stayed in Scotland), Christina, Jane (or Jean), John, and Margaret (my grandmother). Anyone know anything about them?

May 24th 2003-Judy Thompson-Ohio

Melissa Liston and James Thompson are listed on my Grandfather's d. certificate as the parents of Francis Marion (Frank)Thompson, (b. between 1864-69 supposedly in Otway, OH - Scioto County). Francis Marion (Frank)Thompson married Ardelia Brown and lived in nearby Adams County, OH. They had 11 children. I cannot locate a birth record for Frank. The Perry Liston family is in the vacinity. I am trying to find a Liston link for my G-Grandmother. I cannot find a 'Melissa' Liston or James (F.?) Thompson as a family unit on any census that would prove a link. There is no shortage of Listons and Thompsons in Scioto County. Any help on this out there?

 Thank you.

I was born in Limerick (southern Ireland) and moved to Slough (England) in 1983 when I was 5. I have 5 brothers and sisters Kathleen, John, Stephen, Emily & Kelly. I now live in Manchester with my partner and son. I lost my father John (Sean) Liston 6 years ago and I would love to hear from anyone who might have known him when he was younger perhaps. Any amusing stories that I can pass onto my son.

I still have family in Limerick, Mike & Mary Liston (uncle & Aunt) and Renee and Diarmuid (Cousins). Also 2nd cousins. One of which has a successful property company, also Mike Liston. My dad's other brother is called Terry Liston he lives in Hilingdon, London. He has 2 childrean called Amy and Ian Liston.

Very surprised to see that there are so many of us Listons around, especially those hailing from Limerick.

March 7th 2003-Devon D. Liston-Dodge County, Nebraska, U.S.A.

There are 2 distinct families of Listons in Nebraska, USA. The Dale Liston family of Fremont, NE came to the state within the last 20 years from Iowa. The Dodge County Listons came from Ohio around the turn of the century and are heavily Germanized by now. This is called the Franklin Ellsworth Liston family . I track genealogy for three surnames...Otteman, Winkelmann, and Liston.

They left Ohio with their only child, Ida Mae, and moved to Jackson County, Iowa. I would love any information that you can give me. We know nothing of the family before them.

January 29th 2003-Natasha Liston Williams-Winston Salem, North Carolina

It was wonderful to stubble across this website! My mother is a Liston and my family are descendents of slaves from South Carolina. We have traced our family back several generations to Harry Liston, who after emancipation, bought a substantial amount of property in Winnsboro, South Carolina. He was a successful farmer whose descendents became very educated and went on to be pioneers in their fields. My great-father, Hardy Liston, was president of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. "Liston Hall" is named after him. We have a family reunion every year, this year to be held in Chicago, Illinois aroung the third week of April. I have lots of things to share about my family and welcome any questions, comments or information about other listons around the world. I am an attorney from the states but am currently pursuing an MBA in Lyon, France. I would love to hear of any possible Listons in France.

January 19th 2003-William P. Leston-Las Rozas, Madrid, SPAIN.

Very nice research work done here, indeed; this has been a nice discovery, for I've found the site amazing. Congratulations.

Still, I have a question, and by what I've seen, it MUST have an affirmative answer; Does the surname "Leston" come from "Liston"? My family's oral tradition sais that we come from Scotland, and before that from Normandy... seems a very unique coincidence whatsoever, doesn't it?

If anybody knows anything about this, please, do tell me.

January 19th 2003-Ronald Louis Liston-Chesapeake, Virginia

I was born,1940, at Anderson, Indiana to Murray and Elizabeth Timmons Liston. My father's father was Eddie Liston.

The Listons were the first permanent settlers in Vigo County, Indiana. Persons interested in the LISTON family name might look into the geaneaologies of the Pound, Kessler, and McCall families. Also, an interesting history can be found in the William and Mary Quarterly relating to Wakefield Plantation, the birthplace of George Washington. The LISTON(Lisson) plat located at the convergence of Popes Creek and the Potomac River still exists as a part of this National Park. The property was originally deeded to Daniel Liston (I believe around 1650). Check out this history. The history of the McCall family has a nice print and description of the LISTON family Arms.

Hello to all of my unknown but extended LISTON family.

Wonderful site..I was particularly interested in the message from David Beers of Homestead, Fla. as his Liston Family is from Scioto Co. also. I am trying to find my cousins --descedants of Ethel Nichols Liston Thompson. One son, Lowell Liston, Portsmouth, Ohio has passed away..I am trying to find any of my aunt's other children. I went to my aunt's burial site in Rushtown, Ohio and found that one of my aunt's daughter's was buried beside her last Dec.. There should still be 4 or 5 other children and their decendants somewhere in Ohio...thanks for this help....

11/14/02 06:26:41 PM-Ashley Doyle-Los Angeles ( both parents from Chicago, Ill.)

I'm researching the Liston family relatives from all over. All I have to start with is what my grandmother told me. My great-great-grandfather was Mike Liston from Limerick, Ireland. She said he was 14 yrs. old when he was deported from Ireland sometime in the 1860's or 1870's as were two of his brothers. All three were sent to different continents. I don't know the name of the other two brothers but Mike Liston was sent to America and eventually wound up in Chicago. One brother was sent to Capetown, South Africa and the other to Auckland, New Zealand. The son of this brother was Archbishop Liston of Auckland. He came to Chicago sometime in the 1960's, I believe, to do a mass for the family. I had seen the invitation for the mass that my grandmother had back when I was a teenager. She also had newspaper clippings and correspondence that a cousin had from the Listons in South Africa.

If anyone has any information or knows this family, please contact me at ListonUSA@msn.com. Thank You

I have been to the village of Liston, England. Nice little place. If you blink you'll miss it. I would like to know more. Thanks for this site.

I do not know much about my the Liston side of my family but I do know that my Grandfather's name was Gomer and he had a brother Vernon. We are from the Bridgeport, OH., Martins Ferry, OH., and Wheeling, W.Va area. I was told that part of the Liston family followed Bringham Young (Mormons) to Utah, and some turned back and helped to start the Church of Latterday Saints. If anyone has and questions or info, I'll try to find the answers, I'm just starting so I hope to find out more soon.

Have traced back to Great grandfather, Daniel Abraham Liston,, born 1827. My fathers name was also Daniel Abraham, born 1898. This part of the Liston family mainly lived in Camberwell, London. This information was obtained courtesy of the Frank Liston web page. Have been in contact with a long lost cousin just recently via this web page.

01/27/02 12:30:55 AM-Richard Liston-Jamaica, West Indies

I live in London but am originally from Jamaica. I have searched the Liston website for information about the Jamaican Listons. Does anyone out there have any info? From what I have researched and learnt from older family members, the Jamaican Listons are from the parish of Clarendon and may be related to the boxer Sonny 'Charles' Liston, whose family apparently left Jamaica some years ago. The only other clue I have about the Jamaican Listons is that we originate from Scotland and are attached to the Stuart/ Stewart clan. Can anyone in the wider family shed any light on the (small) Listons who live in Jamaica?

There are several families of Liston's from the Lima area. Some are Italian Americans and others are Black Americans. This is an excellent site.
