Well all you Listons out there who believe there is some sort of Italian
connection, in Verona there is a cafe called Cafe Liston. Imagine my
excitement when I found it. I asked the waiter if that was the name of the
owner, hoping to meet an Italian Liston, only to find out that it meant the
paving stones we were sitting on and that is where the Italian version of
the name came from.

I am the brother that Mary Liston Severson refers to. Does anyone know if
Liston has a tarten in Ireland or Scotland? The closest that our cousins in

Portland, Oregon and Western Colorado
Well, the portrait of Sir Robert Liston by Gilbert Stuart at the NAtional
Gallery in DC looks a heck of alot like my late Grandpa Robert L. Liston.
However, we trace back through Morris Liston, no even indirectly there seem
to be a few intense family traits (I recognized the face before I'd read the
name).
I have two or three daughters and live in Portland. We spend time back in
GLenwood Springs,Colorado with my folks (originally of Iowa) and my four
siblings. Two of my brothers and my sister work as raft guides and share a
bunk room in the center of the house. Back in Portland, I take care of the
baby and paint pictures.

My father is from Athea Co. Limerick where the countryside is awash with
Listons. Castlemahon is another small town with lots of Listons. The
villages are only about 15 miles apart but there is no crossover at all.
Living in Newcastle West (closer to Castlemahon than Athea) I am assumed to
be a Castlemahon Liston. As if!!

My grandfather was a LISTON. Unfortunately, he passed away when my mother
was young. We have been told that when his family came to America from Italy
their last name was Listanti but it was shortened to Liston, as they often
shortened long names of immigrants. I am just curious if you know anything
about this.
